Adult Activities in Hollywood

Hollywood has more grown-up options than its Walk of Fame reputation suggests — if you know where to look. Distillery tours, rooftop pool bars, jazz clubs, comedy stages, and the only cemetery in Los Angeles where you can drink wine on a blanket and watch a movie. Here's the working list.

Daytime activities

• Distillery tour at Hollywood Distillery. Sixty minutes, four-spirit tasting flight, the only working distillery in Hollywood. $30, all ages welcome, Thursday through Sunday.
• Sunset hike on Runyon Canyon. A two-mile loop with panoramic views of the basin. Bring water; LA hills are deceptively steep.
• The Hollywood Museum. Inside the historic Max Factor Building, focused on classic-era Hollywood costumes, props, and memorabilia.
• Hollywood Forever Cemetery walk. Free, beautiful, full of historic Hollywood graves, and unexpectedly meditative.

Evening activities

• The Comedy Store. Three rooms, multiple shows a night, drop-ins from major comedians. The legendary one.
• The Pantages. Touring Broadway shows in a 1930 movie palace. Worth dressing up for.
• The Hollywood Bowl (summer). Picnic on the lawn, classical or jazz programming, sometimes pop crossovers.
• Cinespia at Hollywood Forever (summer Saturdays). Classic films projected against a mausoleum wall. Bring a blanket.

Late-night cocktail bars

• Musso & Frank Grill. Hollywood's oldest restaurant, opened 1919. The martini is the order.
• The Tropicana at the Roosevelt. Rooftop pool bar with a Hockney-painted bottom.
• The Frolic Room. Tiny neon-lit dive next to the Pantages. Bukowski drank here.
• No Vacancy. Speakeasy-style cocktail bar behind an unmarked door. Reservation only.
